Obituary of Arvis Gene Smith

Arvis Gene Smith July 28, 1940 –Sept 22, 2014 Born in Loop, TX to Guy and Carrie Smith, Arvis was the oldest of 4 children. He was raised in Loop, TX, Achille, OK, and then Denison, TX, graduating from Denison High School in 1958. He married Wanda Lee Bradley on 8/24/1964, eventually moving to Arlington, TX, where they raised two sons. He was a master plumber and was co-owner of S&S Mechanical in Arlington, TX from 1977 to 1988, followed by other business ventures, with eventual moves to Bonham, TX, Cartwright, OK, and finally retiring to Seymour, TN in 2005. He and Wanda celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary one month ago. He is survived by his wife: Wanda, 2 sons: Brad Smith and wife Tami, Mike Smith and wife LaDonna, 3 grandsons: Joshua and Andrew Smith of Houston, TX, and Austin Smith of Seymour, TN, 2 sisters: Josie Erliene Anderson and Laura Weger of Sherman, TX, one brother: Leland Smith, of Denison, TX, and multiple other relatives who he loved and cared about deeply. Always known as a friendly, outgoing, and helpful spirit who loved to laugh, “Smitty” made friends everywhere he went. In recent years he developed close relationships with “the Big Mike’s coffee bunch”, a group of men who met daily at Big Mike’s Cafe to drink coffee, swap tales, and “solve the world’s problems”. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to either St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or the University of Tennessee Medical Center Hospice Services in Knoxvile, TN. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
