The Cremation Society of East Tennessee is a low cost simple cremation provider. We aim to provide the simplist process when it comes to the disposition of a loved one. We understand that not everyone wants a traditional funeral home experience or the costs associated with a full service funeral home.
You do not have to be a member of "the society" to take advantage of our simple services. Membership is available and encouraged to simplify the gathering of pertinent information at the time of a loved one's death.
Here are some of the most common questions and answers about us.
1. How much does a simple cremation cost?
$1395.00 is our standard price, which includes our basic services, initial pick up (within a 50 mile radius), gathering of necessary paperwork and permits, an alternative container, transportation to the crematory, the cremation, death certificate filing, 1 death certificate, and sales tax. We do not have any hidden charges or fees. We do require payment up front by cash, verified check, or credit card.
2. Does that price include everything?
As stated before the $1395 is an all inclusive out-the-door price. Many cremation providers can quote a price but they then add on other charges above and beyond the cremation itself.
3. How come your prices are so much less than everyone else?
Unlike a traditional funeral home we are able to keep our overhead low by not having a large facility or many staff.
4. Where are you located?
Our offices are located at 116 Durwood Rd., Knoxville, TN 37922. We make all arrangements by appointment only, Monday - Friday, 9:00 - 5:00 pm. If you are someone else that needs to sign the authorization papers is out of town, we can handle most arrangements by a combination of phone, email, and/or fax.
5. Are you a locally owned company?
We are actually owned by Rose Mortuary (which is locally owned and operated). We were started because we understood that not everyone wanted to use a traditional full service funeral home, and we desired to be able to serve those families as well.
6. Can we inspect the cremation facilities you use?
We are part owners of the East Tennessee Cremation Company which is located at 503 National Drive, Maryville, TN 37804. We welcome visitors to come see the facility at any time and can arrange for any family to be there for their loved one's cremation.
7. Can you provide services beyond the cremation, i.e. a visitation or memorial service?
We can provide any service that a traditional funeral home would provide outside of their facility, however, we specialize in the simple cremation. (any additional service would warrant additional charges)
8. Do you sell urns?
We have the largest selection of urns in town and are happy to sell them to families we are serving or others that are just in the market for an urn.
9. Can someone preplan for their cremation and take that burden off their family?
We encourage people to preplan by joining the society or they can take it a step further and actually prepay for their cremation expenses. By law we cannot discount prearrangements.
