Obituary of Mildred Eileen Zucker

Mildred Eileen (Lakso) Zucker, 97, passed away peacefully in her sleep on December 14, 2018.

Mildred was born February 24, 1921, in Fairport Harbor, Ohio, to Jacob and Selma Lakso.  She married Donald Zucker on July 4, 1941, at Suomi Zion Lutheran Church in Fairport Harbor.  They moved to Oak Ridge during World War II, where she worked at Y-12.  Mildred earned a degree in Home Economics at Iowa State University.  During her life in Oak Ridge, she volunteered as an American Red Cross Gray Lady at the Oak Ridge hospital, then later at the old Oak Ridge Cancer Cupboard.  One of her hobbies was cooking, about which everyone raved.

Mildred was preceded in death by her parents; husband; two sisters, Helen and Elsa; and grandson Joseph.

Survivors include her twin sons, Edward (Natalia) and James (Amy) Zucker; grandchildren Jakob; Marshall; Elizabeth; Polina, Alisa; several nieces and nephews; and special friends Mattie Galyon and Galena Gracheva.

Private services will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy make take the form of donations to the American Red Cross.
